Derek brings an aggressive yet collaborative approach to representing employers, insurers and businesses in complex litigation matters. He works closely with claims professionals and clients to efficiently manage exposure, control litigation costs and achieve favorable outcomes.
He has extensive experience in resolving workers’ compensation claims through strategic negotiation and mediation. Derek has participated in federal and judicial settlement mediations involving high-value disputes, providing practical insight into complex case valuation and risk assessment.
During law school, Derek participated in the externship program, gaining hands-on litigation experience. He also served on Law Review, strengthening his legal research, writing and analytical skills. He earned his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law, graduating summa cum laude and in the top five percent of his class, and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
Outside of his legal practice, Derek enjoys reading, writing and staying active. He spends a lot of time with his family and two German Shepherds. He is also a devoted Chicago Bears fan.
